The prompt given by the official NaPoWriMo site: A poem that
The seams sunder before my eyes
And coal dark soil rends.
From Earth a looming cobalt hand
Soars up, my road to end.
The grim cover of trees disperse
As the wave by night ascends
The stars their flashing daggers draw
To hew this force if need be.
Sly woods of shadows cower
The world withdraws from the sea.
If the ocean were a demon
Devouring all it kissed-
Are the silent shores of gold wet
with grief where he touches?
If the ocean were a god
Holding in thrall these forces rampart
Then are the wilderness and dusk
Diabolic twins he thwarts?
If the ocean where a lover
Yearning for the sky,
Is his deep tranquil waters
Tears of passion ruptured?
If the ocean were a bridge
That fastened warring lands,
Could I be the wanderer whom
to unknown worlds these waves herald?
If this ocean were a dream,
Would salt and sand sprinkled my thirst-
A thirst to feel a miracle’s touch
To hear an ancient heart unslept?
If this ocean were a secret
Veiling pearls and myriad mysteries,
Its deeps, with imagination I’d decipher
And unwound a string of fantasy
this ocean with its savage sight
Is all these and a subtle thought –
A contemplation of peace and rage
And my own unfound trenches.
